Two churches set on fire in Spain

On the night of January 25, an arson attempt at one of the entrances to San Miguel Church in Jerez was swiftly extinguished by local residents.
However, just hours later, on the morning of January 26, another fire was deliberately set at a different entrance, this time necessitating the intervention of the fire brigade. Authorities are now investigating both incidents.
During the second attack, perpetrators stuffed paper into the cracks of the side door to accelerate the spread of flames. According to eyewitnesses, the fire generated significant smoke inside the church, but prompt action by firefighters confined the damage to the door.
Jerez’s mayor, María José García-Pelayo, has strongly condemned the incident, asserting that the fire was intentional. “San Miguel Church is a historic treasure, and it is deeply regrettable that this act of arson occurred. Fortunately, it appears the damage was limited to the doors and entrance,” she stated.
