Pope Francis announced his readiness to go to China
Pope Francis is ready to go to the People's Republic of China at any time. The Holy Father confirmed this during a flight from Rome to the capital of Kazakhstan, Nur-Sultan. "But I have no news" about a possible meeting with Chinese President Xi Jingping in Nur-Sultan, Francis told his traveling journalists.
The Holy Father will take part in the VII Congress of World and Traditional Religions, which will be attended by almost one hundred delegations from 60 countries.
President Xi will be in Kazakhstan at the same time as Francis on an official state visit. Therefore, there were speculations in media reports about their possible meeting.
The Holy See and China are about to renew the provisional agreement on the appointment of bishops in the communist-ruled country.
On the plane, the Pope greeted the over seventy journalists present, leaning on his cane. The Mexican Association of Journalists, through a Televisa correspondent, donated to Pope Francis a plastic pigeon that was used in the presentation of the Nobel Peace Prize.
