The statue was erected on the central plain of the Cour La Reine, near the Bridge of the Invalides, and was inaugurated in 2013 by the Mayor of Paris to pay tribute to the memory of the victims of genocide and especially to Father Komitas.

A denier of the genocide has recently defaced the statue, by writing under the inscription engraved on the base of the monument: “c’est faux” (i.e. it is false). The original inscription focused on the efforts of the priest to preserve Armenian heritage.

On Sunday the 30th of August, the Coordination Council of Armenian Organisations of France (CCAF) firmly condemned this atrocity.
