Italian church desecrated twice in three days

In just three days, the church of St. Andrew in Bergamo has been the object of two acts of desecration.
The first act of profanation consisted in moving the liturgical chairs to the centre of the church and turning them upside down. The vandals also urinated in the middle of the church.
Days later, ornate collection boxes were stolen from the same church. The precious objects were systematically emptied of small monetary donations that had been donated by the faithful.
However, only the wooden boxes that date from the 19th century were valuable.
As a consequence of the vandalism and robberies, no Masses can be celebrated in the church in the short term.
“My dream was to create an oasis of peace. A place that would always have an open door for everyone seeking peace, beauty and spirituality at any time of the day or night. We succeeded for some time. Unfortunately, in recent days there have been events that all my parishioners and I would like to forget as soon as possible,” wrote the parish priest Fr. Giovanni Gusmini on social media.
