Sub-Saharan Africa remains one of the most dangerous regions for Christians
Not a week goes by in sub-Saharan Africa without Christians being massacred. In Nigeria, Mali, Niger, Burkina Faso, and Central Africa, followers of Jesus-Christ are in danger, and it unfortunately, looks like these anti-Christian attitudes are here to stay.
Since its creation, the jihadist organization affiliated to Daesh, Boko Haram, has had almost 500 Catholic priests murdered in the state of Borno alone, according to Monsignor Oliver Doeme, the Archbishop of Maiduguri, which is the capital of Borno state. His diocese, which compiles gruesome accounts every month, revealed that 250 Catholic churches were burnt down in the northeastern states of Nigeria in 2014 alone when Boko Haram started its bloody operations.
He also said that 80,000 Catholics took the path of exile to non-Muslim states in Nigeria while another 64,000 settled in Cameroon. The hostage-taking of young Christian virgins captured in their schools or villages has also become a trademark of Boko Haram since 2014.
Therefore sub-Saharan countries are now in the leading group of the most dangerous places for Christians in the world, according to the last annual “index” of the Protestant ‘Open House’ association which is dedicated to reporting on anti-Christian persecution in the world.
