Christian convert faces five years in prison
Esmaeil Narimanpour, an Iranian man who converted to Christianity, is facing five years in prison. He already spent more than four months in prison over alleged security concerns.
Esmaeil Narimanpour, an Iranian man who converted to Christianity, was sentenced to five years in prison. He is one of the 50 Christians who were arrested last year during Christmas period raids. He has spent more than four months already in jail over accusations against him about national security concerns.
Esmaeil was released on bail of $8,000 on April 30 but now awaits his summons to serve his sentence. He was charged with
“acting against national security by communicating with Christian ‘Zionist’ organisations”.
His home was searched without a warrant, many of his personal belongings, including Christian books, were confiscated, and his family members were interrogated and detained for hours.
It is not the first time in Emaeil’s life that Iranian authorities have targeted him. In 2021, he was arrested because of alleged anti-government and propaganda activities. He was not found guilty of the charges but had to participate in religious re-education.
