Pope Francis: catholic church was destroyed in Mozambique

The Pope lamented on the violence in Sudan and Mozambique after in Northern Mozambique an armed group attacked civilians and destroyed a Catholic church.

After the Sunday Angelus, the Pope appealed for peace in Sudan and Mozambique. He recalled that the violence broke out in Sudan ten months ago. Despite the peace efforts, violent conflict is raging in Sudan. It caused a humanitarian disaster, forcing millions of people to rely on humanitarian aid.

The Pope lamented the recent attacks in Mozambique. In the northern Cabo Delgado Region of Mozambique, armed militants set ablaze the Catholic mission of Our Lady of Africa in Mazeze, destroying the Catholic chapel and nearby houses and attacking defenseless civilians.

Pope Francis said,

Let us pray for peace to return to that tormented region.”

He prayed for the people suffering from other conflicts in the world and recalled that war is always a defeat.
