The pope meets with disabled children in Hungary

Pope with disabled children

On Saturday, Pope Francis arrives at the Blessed Batthyány-Strattmann László Home for Disabled Children in Budapest, the Holy Father will see where and how they take care of the blind, visually impaired and multiply disabled children and young people.

On the second day of his visit to Hungary, Pope Francis arrives on Saturday at the Blessed Batthyány-Strattmann László Home in Budapest, where they will visit all three buildings of the institution, and the Holy Father will see where and how they take care of the blind, visually impaired and multiply disabled children and young people entrusted to them. Along the way, Pope Francis can peek into our chapel and meet our children for whom sitting through the 40-50 minute program is almost impossible due to their illness or condition.

The other residents of the home are waiting for the Pope in the dining room of our new building, where they greet him in Latin and then the home choir performs for fifteen minutes. They sing together when the Holy Father arrives and departs, and so that they can pray together with him, every resident has learned the Lord’s Prayer in Latin.

“The residents and staff of the home are also preparing for the visit as they would welcome a long-awaited, beloved relative arriving from afar in a family. We’ve made the house a little nicer, but we were asked to show its reality, so we prepared for the visit with just a renovation appropriate for welcoming guests. In spirit, everyone is tuning in to the meeting according to their own abilities and skills. And while I hope this event will be reaffirming, renewing, and inspiring for the whole community, I think it’s important for everyone present to take away a little something that could become a lifelong experience” emphasized the director of the institution.

According to the director, it is obvious why the Holy Father is visiting the home if the question arises at all. He believes that anyone who chooses the name Francis as pope not only feels close to the world of the disadvantaged, the sick, and the disabled but also sees in them the manifestation of God’s love.
