Christian persecution on the rise in Italy
Acts of vandalism targeting Christian symbols have been multiplying in Italy for the last months. This traditionally Catholic country is currently facing a similar trend of anti-Christian activism led by several anarchist, neo-marxist and even satanic movements.
“This is more than just vandalism, behind these attacks is hatred of the faith and the Church – emphasises Fr. Mario Proietti, rector of the sanctuary of St. Gaspar del Bufalo which was recently set on fire.
“Greater losses were avoided only because passers-by noticed the fire. The entrance to the sanctuary was doused with gasoline to increase the damage” the priest remarked. He also reminded our colleagues from Polonia Christiana that the church in Albano Laziale is “a very popular place of pilgrimage because it houses the relics of the founder of the Congregation of the Missionaries of the Precious Blood.”
In recent days, another group of youngsters destroyed a cross from Lizzano in Belvedere with machetes. Earlier, the church in Sardinia was desecrated. The chapel in Porto San Paolo was painted with satanic pentagrams by unknown perpetrators, figures of saints were smashed, and the holy water font was turned into a toilet.
