Over three years without news from kidnapped Malaysian Pastor
On February 13, 2017 Protestant pastor Raymond Koh was kidnapped in broad daylight in the town of Petaling Jaya in Malaysia. The abduction was not claimed, and no ransom demand was communicated to the family or the authorities. Three years later, there are still no news from the Malaysian preacher.
The 62-year-old Rev. Raymond Koh was appreciated by everyone around him, said the family members. Engaged in numerous charitable actions carried out by his Church, he had founded a group called Harapan Komuniti (“Hope Community”) which provided free English lessons to adults and tutoring classes to children. Its action was aimed at all, regardless of their ethnic and religious affiliation.
Pastor Koh had been accused, in 2011, by the Selangor Islamic Religious Department of Christian proselytism towards Muslims. Shortly after, he had received an envelope containing a bullet at his home. On April 3, 2019 the National Human Rights Commission concluded that the kidnapping was carried out by a special police unit.
The Christian community from which Raymond Koh originates represents around ten percent of the total population of the predominantly Muslim population of Malaysia.
