Pope Francis donated 150 thousand euro to help the flood victims of Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Malawi that were caused by the devastating Idai cyclone.
The Holy See made a contribution of €50,000 to each of the three affected countries is a form of “first aid” to help local people in this initial phase of an emergency response according to a Vatican dicastery.
The money will be distributed, with the collaboration of the Apostolic Nunciatures, among the territories and people that were most affected by the catastrophe.
Pope Francis expressed his solidarity with the families of the victims and to those who lost their home due to the floods.
“I entrust the victims and their relatives to the mercy of God, and I beseech the Lord’s consolation and help for all those who were affected by the catastrophe,” said the Pope in Saint Peter’s Square in Rome.
Latest reports put the death toll at 300, thousands more were injured, and many others had to leave their homes due to the flooding.
