Church attacked in Istanbul
Two armed men opened fire at a church in Istanbul on the evening of December 31, 2024. Two suspects have been arrested.
Kurtuluş Church, a church building in the Çekmeköy district of Istanbul, Türkiye, was attacked on New Year’s Eve. Arriving by car, a perpetrator opened gunfire at the church on the evening of December 31, 2024. He fired several shots that penetrated the iron shutter, broke the glass window, and damaged the interior of the building. No casualties were reported, but the assailant was heard shouting:
“We will not allow you to brainwash our Muslim youth! O infidels, you will be defeated and gathered to be driven into hell.”
Police have already started the investigation into the attack and arrested two men who are suspects in this attack. The same church was attacked back in 2023 when two assailants vandalized the church, tearing signs off the building. Both perpetrators were arrested.
