A gunman attacked an Adventist school in California
A gunman launched an attack on a small Seventh-day Adventist-affiliated school in California on Wednesday, critically injuring two male students before apparently taking his own life.
The incident occurred at Feather River School of Seventh-Day Adventists in Palermo, a K-8 institution with fewer than 40 students. According to The Associated Press, the unnamed shooter, who had no known connection to the school, attended a meeting with an administrator about potentially enrolling a child.
Shortly afterward, gunfire erupted, injuring two students. The shooter’s body was later found near playground equipment, with a handgun nearby.
Butte County Sheriff Kory L. Honea stated in a press conference that the motive for the attack was unclear but suggested the school’s religious affiliation might have been a factor.
“Whether or not this is a hate crime or part of some larger scheme, at this point I don’t have enough information to answer that,” Honea said, as reported by the AP.
