Thieves beheaded a statue of the infant Jesus and stole money from a shrine in Italy

On Saturday, July 13, unidentified individuals broke into the Madonna della Grotta sanctuary, stealing over €500 euro and beheading the statue of the infant Jesus.
Don Paolo Raimondi, priest of the Sacred Heart of Jesus parish in Praia a Mare and rector of the Marian shrine, reported that upon discovering the vandalism, he and the parish staff “could do nothing but take note of the mess caused.”
€570 was stolen during the break-in from the sacristy of the main Church,
“In the Sanctuary, apart from breaking handles and locks, a few euros, a silver-plated chalice, and the silver-plated brass crowns that adorned the replica of the Madonna — created last year by Maestro Di Miceli, were stolen, and during the theft, the statue of the Infant Jesus was beheaded. Another chalice was damaged,” the priest further detailed.
