Graffiti was smeared on a religious panel during World Youth Day
On August 5th, a tile panel depicting the Ecce Homo (an image of Jesus Christ), the fifth station of the ancient procession of "Nosso Senhor dos Passos," was vandalized with the graffiti "God is trans" in the city of Torres Novas.
Given that this event occurred on the same night as the beheading of the statue of St. Anthony and Baby Jesus in the same city, it is quite possible that the perpetrators were the same.
The vandalism occurred while World Yoth Day 2023 was being celebrated in Lisbon during the first week of August.
There has been an increase in acts of intolerance against Christians in Portugal during this period.
