Violence and assault in Manipur: Christians persecuted in India

Manipur

Christians persecuted in India. Citizens erupted in angry protests after a disturbing video from Manipur went viral, depicting the assault of two women from the Christian Kuki tribe. Now, an eerily similar story has emerged—making it clear that the violence against our persecuted sisters in Manipur is not an isolated incident.

Hardworking women were en route to their jobs when they were apprehended by a mob, assaulted and killed.

One victim’s grieving mother filed a police report, asserting the violence was committed by the majority-Hindu population. Yet nearly two months later, the authorities have failed to pursue any assault or murder charges. Instead, they logged minor charges in their records system, such as “disturbing the peace.”

All around the world, it’s not uncommon for our persecuted family to suffer from immense injustice. In India, our Christian brothers and sisters make up only 2% of the population. As such, the authorities—mostly Hindu—often overlook their complaints due to religious bias and prejudice.

Last week’s video and this new story may be just the tip of the iceberg, because much of the Christian persecution often falls under the radar.
