Six students were forced to renounce a biblical studies scholarship in the Philippines
In the Philippines, six students were forced by their parents to renounce a biblical studies scholarship. The adolescents accepted the decision of their parents, but they continued going to church.
Thirty-eight students were awarded a biblical studies scholarship in the southern part of the Philippines. Through the program’s framework, the students would have had the opportunity to understand the Bible’s teaching better. Local Islamic religious leaders, however, tried to convince the parents of the children that they would be brainwashed.
Finally, the parents of six children forced their offspring not to accept the scholarship. The adolescents relinquished the opportunity out of respect for their parents; they did not give up attending church or believing in Jesus Christ.
