Nigerian priest released after ten days in captivity

A Nigerian priest held in captivity for ten days was released safe and sound on the 23rd of October.

Catholic priest Mark Chimezie Godfrey was kidnapped on the 13th of October in the Diocese of Umuahia, Nigeria. In a statement issued on the 23rd of October, Father Lucius Iwejáru Ugorji, Bishop of Umuahia, announced that the priest had been released without any trace of having been hit or hurt.

According to the bishop, the priest’s release was the answer of God to “our prayers”. He also thanked those who prayed for the liberation of the young priest.

According to local sources, Godfrey could have been kidnapped by mistake instead of another person. That is why he could have been released without suffering any harm.
