Polish volleyball representative at Tokyo 2020 talks openly about his faith in God
After a close defeat against Iran, the Polish volleyball team defeated the Italians in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. After the match, Wilfredo Leon, one of the pillars of the team, said that he felt the support of God during the game.
“I sleep calmly. I’m always with God. He can do much and helps me,” he declared.
Wilfredo Leon is one of the pillars of the Polish volleyball team. He surprises his opponents with powerful attacks and serves. Prior to joining Poland, he represented Cuba until 2012, when the Cuban volleyball federation forbade its players to sign contracts with foreign clubs. Leon decided to play abroad and was removed from Cuba’s list of representatives as a result.
Leon has a Polish wife and received Polish citizenship in 2015.
He also received permission to change his federation from Cuban to Polish and has been playing for Poland since 2019.
