The tragic incident described by the Fiedes Agency took place on the 8th of March in the city of Myitkyina, in Northern Myanmar. About 1.5 million people live there, and around one third are Christian.

On that day, there were clashes with the military junta during the protests. Two young people who wanted to avoid beatings and arrests took refuge in St. Columbana. The soldiers started shooting at the unarmed youth. Two young people were killed and seven were injured.

A nun who has been remembered in recent days from photos showing her kneeling in front of the attacking soldiers tried to act as a mediator. The retired bishop of the diocese, Francis Daw Tang, also intervened. The idea was to stop the massacre. Despite calls for a peaceful solution to the matter, the armed men opened fire.
