How would a Biden Administration affect religious freedom in the world?

There are still no official results of the American elections, and if the protests of Donald Trump and the Republicans are not upheld, then Joe Biden will be the 46th president of the United States. Benjamin Harbaugh, the Vice President for Global Engagement with the International Religious Freedom Secretariat, wrote an analysis for International Christian Concern about how a Biden Administration would affect the situation of religious freedom in the world.

According to Benjamin Harbaugh, “Biden will continue to move IRF in the same general direction as the Trump Administration, but without the weight that the current Ambassador for IRF, former Kansas Governor Sam Brownback, has brought to the position.”

He also expects “the position of Senior Director for IRF on the National Security Council (NSC), currently held by Sarah Makin, to remain vacant throughout Biden’s term.”

Lastly, he believes “a Biden Administration will cement IRF as a component of the US foreign policy establishment despite the structural setbacks it faces.”
