An armed woman arrested for attempting to destroy church rectory

A woman has been arrested for allegedly breaking into a Catholic church and attempting to destroy the rectory on Sunday morning. The event happened just minutes after she caused a disturbance at a separate address where she doused her father with a flammable liquid and cut him with a knife.

A 29-year-old woman, Noemi Guzman, was arrested by the Omaha Police Department after allegedly breaking into the St. Francis Cabrini Catholic Church in Omaha, Nebraska. Prior to this incident, she had caused a disturbance at another location where she doused her father with a flammable liquid and cut him with a knife.

According to the police press release issued on Sunday, Guzman entered the church armed with a knife and proceeded to destroy property. The priest managed to barricade himself in a second-floor room while Guzman barricaded herself elsewhere in the building.

Responding to the scene, the Omaha Fire Department used a ladder truck to assist the priest out of the second-floor window to safety. Subsequently, members of the OPD Emergency Response Unit took Guzman into custody as she attempted to jump from another second-floor window around 10 a.m. She was then transported to the hospital for evaluation.
