Nigeria: After surviving a Boko Haram attack, Christian widow raises her children alone
Rikiya was born in Nigeria and grew up as an orphan after she had lost her parents. As an adult, she lost her husband and has to raise her children alone in a country where Boko Haram attacks are commonplace.
Rikiya met Open Doors a month after losing her husband. She was left behind after nine years of marriage with three children. Once she also had to flee from their home with her children due to a Boko Haram attack.
After they could return home, Rikiya’s friends recommended she contact Open Doors and ask for help to maintain her family. She obtained financial aid and has bought some goats. Since then, she works on her little farm to pay the taxes and for the education of her children.
She thanked God for the help and told Open Doors: “Now, God is my dad, my husband, my everything. Everything that has happened brought him nearer to me”.
