Kidnapped university students have been released
Gunmen abducted and held hostage medical students on their way to a Catholic medical student conference. After eight days of captivity, they were released and have returned home safely.
Gunmen abducted medical students from the University of Jos (UNIJOS) and from the University of Maidiguri (UNIMAID) on their way to a conference organized by the Federation of Catholic Medical and Dental Students (FECAMDS). The kidnapping took place on August 15 along the Otukpo-Enugu highway in Benue State, Nigeria.
The students were held hostage for eight days before their release on August 23, in Ntunkon Forest, Benue State, Nigeria. FECAMDS released a statement announcing the release of the abducted medical students.
“After an eight-day ordeal, our 20 colleagues are back with us and their families.”
Furthermore, FECAMDS thanked the police, all who helped and prayed for the release of the hostages, and raised their voices against the grave issue of kidnappings. They added that despite best intentions and commitment to help everybody, medical staff are often targeted by bandits and subjects to kidnapping.
