A message for the ‘Day Commemorating the Victims of Acts of Violence Based on Religion or Belief’

"Violation of religious freedom is not a purely religious issue but also the most serious human rights crisis that is being swept under the rug," State Secretary for the Aid of Persecuted Christians Tristan Azbej said while commemorating a day dedicated to all people persecuted for their religious beliefs around the world.

“Violation of religious freedom is not a purely religious issue, but also a most serious human rights crisis that is being swept under the rug of political correctness. Look at the disappearance of Christian communities so close to extinction in the Middle East, or even the disappearance of the Yazid minority,” Azbej said. He went on:

“Today, the Day Commemorating the Victims of Acts of Violence Based on Religion or Belief, we remember the innocent millions who suffer discrimination or persecution because of their confession of faith.”

“Hungary supports them through the Hungary Helps program, regardless of religion or ethnicity, although especially for Christian communities, because it is the most persecuted religion in the world and thus the most vulnerable group too”, the secretary of state revealed.

Citing St Paul, Azjeb said: “’We are persecuted but not forsaken, cast down, but not destroyed’ (2 Cor 4:10) and this gives us hope and strength.”
