Large cross from a German church has been desecrated
A repulsive profanation took place in the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in the small town of Weiden in the Upper Palatinate. Unknown perpetrators ripped off, carried away and seriously damaged a 75-kilogramme cross. The cross, which was torn off its steel pins, suffered extensive damage.
The first witness to what happened in front of the church was Father Gerhard Pausch, who opened the church gates early in the morning.
Policemen, who arrived in front of the church on Saturday, said that “someone used a great deal of force to destroy the cross, because he even managed to break the strong steel pins supporting the crucifix.”
The large cast-iron cross has stood in front of the entrance to the church in Weiden since 1934. After eighty-six years, its presence apparently began to disturb some radicals.
Police, who quickly appeared at the site where the profanation occurred, have no idea who would want to ruin the Weiden cross and are counting on the help of possible witnesses to help resolve the matter.
