Forty-nine people killed in a week by radical Islamists in the DRC

There have been a series of attacks in the northeastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo in which forty-nine people were killed by suspected ADF (Allied Democratic Forces) terrorists.
The Centre for Studies on Peace, Democracy and Human Rights(CEPADHO) is a local organisation for the defence of human rights. According to their reports, Islamist terrorists attacked Ruwenzori and Beni-Mbau, in the DRC’s North-Kivu province and seven people were killed, Agenzia Fides reported.
In the Lose-Lose area, jihadists kidnapped 45 civilians, looted 15 shops and three pharmacies. Six houses were set on fire, and a nursing home that caters for the Protestant community was looted.
Among the people killed in the attack in this area was Mrs. Paluku Mumethya, animator of the local Catholic Church.
Other areas were attacked on Sunday the 24th of May, bringing the total death toll to 25 civilians.
With the latest attacks, 587 civilians have been massacred by the ADF in retaliation for the large-scale offensive launched against them by the Congolese army that began on the 30th of October, 2019, Agenzia Fides noted.
