Polish police interrupted the pilgrimage to the Sanctuary of Jasna Góra
The Polish police interrupted the walking pilgrimage to Jasna Góra starting from the town Łowicz on Tuesday morning. The pilgrims wanted to pray for the cessation of the pandemic, but they were stopped by the authorities.
The prayer group set off after Mass in a Bernardine convent, celebrated by Bishop Józef Zawitkowski. Later in the afternoon, the pilgrimage was interrupted by the police. The officers explained that the gathering did not respect the sanitary measures related to the coronavirus pandemic.
“The regulations regarding restrictions during the epidemic were not observed. In the maner in which it took place, it should not have been carried out” explained inspector Joanna Kącka, spokeswoman for the provincial police commander of Łódz.
“In our opinion, moving such a large group under the leadership of a priest from the Łowicz parish did not ensure compliance with applicable orders and prohibitions guarding sanitary safety,” she added.
