Iranian Christian convert sentenced to flogging and prison
Mary (Fatemeh) Mohammadi has received a suspended sentence of three months and one day in prison and ten lashes for “disturbing public order,” Middle East Concern reported.
Mary was arrested on the 12th of January near Azadi Square in Tehran during protests following the downing of Ukrainian International Airlines Flight 752 by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran.
According to Middle East Concern, she was physically and emotionally abused during her arrest and transfer to Qarchak prison. For several weeks her whereabouts was unknown, causing friends and family much anxiety.
At the end of February, she was released on bail and a pending court hearing. On the 21st of April, Mary was notified of her sentence.
“…There was no evidence against me, so I ought to have been acquitted.”
Instead, I was sentenced not only to imprisonment, but also flogging”, she wrote on her Instagram.
As MEC noted, Mary will not appeal the sentence.
