Christian institutions produce surgical masks in Germany
In Germany, religious institutions and other voluntary services became involved in the production of protective masks to meet sanitary needs linked with the coronavirus crisis.
From June, up to 50,000 approved masks will be produced daily in the workshop of the Augustinum Foundation for disabled people in Oberschleissheim, near Munich. The announcement was made on the 9th of April by the Protestant group Augustunium and the Regional Church in Munich.
“We want to contribute to fight the pandemic and guarantee the long-term employment of people with disabilities,” explains Director-General Matthias Heidier, who is responsible for the educational establishments of Augustinium.
The masks are to be used in small diaconic institutions and will also be used throughout the group’s own operation. The Augustinum Foundation helps thousands of people throughout Germany with its institutions for disabled people, its care homes as well as its 23 residences for older adults.
