Over 2,400 anti-Christian hate crimes reported in Europe in 2024
In 2024, OIDAC Europe reported a total of 2,444 anti-Christian hate crimes documented by police and civil society across 35 European countries in 2023.
These statistics incorporate data from the ODIHR/OSCE, which recorded 1,230 anti-Christian hate crimes reported by 10 European governments in 2023—an increase from 1,029 cases documented in 2022. The ODIHR/OSCE Hate Crime Data Report was published on November 15 to coincide with the International Day of Tolerance.
OIDAC Europe highlighted several countries of particular concern. France reported nearly 1,000 anti-Christian hate crimes in 2023, the United Kingdom saw incidents rise to over 700, and Germany experienced a dramatic 105% increase, with cases climbing from 135 in 2022 to 277 in 2023.
Beyond acts of violence, the report also identified workplace and public life discrimination against Christians in some European countries, contributing to growing self-censorship among Christian communities. Additionally, 2023 saw various governmental restrictions on religious freedom, including bans on religious processions and actions targeting Christians for peacefully expressing their religious beliefs.
