Vandalism and theft were discovered in an Italian sanctuary
The statue of the Madonna of the Sanctuary of the Angels Church in San Matteo (Italy) was found on the ground with its little finger missing. While in the past it was mostly the candles in front of the statue of the Madonna which disappeared, this time a vessel for holy water was stolen in the church.
This has been happening since last summer, according to Father Giorgio. There are often posters or schedules torn down. Candles in front of the Madonna have disappeared, the olive branches used for Palm Sunday have been tampered with, and the concrete garden pots are often emptied with the soil scattered.
A container for holy water was also stolen from the church.
