Relatives of victims of Easter bombings in Sri Lanka found God thanks to the tragedy

Christians, who have survived the terror attack and the relatives of the victims, have all received spiritual wounds that will last a lifetime. Nevertheless, many of them were positively changed by the tragedy.

“Verl is one of the people who lost family members. Notwithstanding that he has lost three relatives, he doesn’t stop glorifying God: “It is painful losing someone, but these people haven’t died. The blood of the martyrs is the living seed of the Church. I have lost my son, my sister and my brother-in-law, but they will rise on the Day of the Lord. God is great and good. I had my son for 13 years; God has him forever.” Verl said he would dedicate the rest of his life in God’s service, and added: “I am nothing. Jesus is everything.”

Many of the survivors and the relatives of the victims are devotedly spreading the word of God among non-believers and Muslims. According to family members, many of the had given up on their lives with God.

The story of Prashant is the story of a man who converted due to the terror attack. His wife, Girija was a devoted Christian, she went to the church regularly. However, Prashant has never joined her. Once, when they celebrated the birthday of one of their children, Girija suddenly started to dance. Prashant asked her why was she acting like a fool. She answered: “I don’t know, maybe I will die.” And the day after, she was seriously hurt in the bombing, and died one week later.

During her life, she always read parts of the Bible to the family. After her death, her sister took her place, and the family went on praying together. Since then, Prashant has also participated in prayer and goes to church.

“On her deathbed, I promised that one day I too would go to church. It was her last wish. But now, when I am in the church and alone, I regret not having accompanied her to praise God.”
