France: a record high number of people watched televised Mass

On Sunday the 15th of March, the French public channel France 2 broadcast Holy Mass live. The celebration took place under exceptional conditions in the studio of CFRT (French Committee for Radio and Television).

According to French media, this broadcast attracted 1.1 million people (12.1 per cent of the French television audience) placing France 2 at the forefront of Sunday broadcasts. The private station TF1 – which transmits the football magazine “Téléfoot” at the same hour – only gained the attention of 932,000 French viewers.

CFRT intends to carry out further broadcasts of Sunday Masses while maintaining all possible precautions to protect the health of clergymen as well as the studio staff.

Regular transmissions of Masses are also provided by KTO TV – a private French broadcaster. This station was founded in 2009 by Cardinal Jean-Marie Lustiger, and was financed thanks to the voluntary donations of the faithful.
