Roger Scruton wanted a conservative approach to ecology
The recently deceased British thinker, Sir Roger Scruton, has left behind a rich heritage of a conservative approach to many of the key problems of today's world. Among them is the ecological crisis.
Caring for the planet does not have to have left wing connotations. Moreover, solutions to ecological crises will not be brought by centrally planned control of the world economy. The British Conservative not only points to the contemporary madness of ecologicalism, but also proposes an alternative solution.
“On the left, there is a tendency to confuse rational self-interest, driving the market, with greed as a form of irrational excesses,” argues the British.
According to Scruton, the desire to help developing countries is directly linked to their economic development. “The solutions proposed so far by international agendas will not work: emissions trading, promotion of veganism or abandonment of plastic make us think there might be something more than just a geniuine concern for the planet.”
