On the night of the 28th of February, 23 people died, and another 45 were injured in an attack with a lorry-bomb in the capital, Mogadishu.

The Al-Shabaab Jihadist group assumed responsibility for the attack.

Even though the group was expelled from the town in 2011, they still exert a significant influence in the territory and are behind many terrorist attacks in the region.

The local police commissioner, Abshir Isak declared that the object of the attack was the Maka Almukrama hotel, located in a busy street in the city centre.

A website named Veja reported that in  2018 the number of reported attacks was the lowest in the last eleven years.  Compared with 2017, there were 33.2% fewer attempts.

The number of citizens who died in attacks has also decreased within the quarter. According to Veja, the reason for this decrease is the local and international victory over ISIS in Syria and Iraq.
