Priest kidnapped in south-east Nigeria

A criminal gang abducted the priest while he was on his way home after celebrating Mass. According to the Nigerian media, the same group that tried to kidnap a politician of the Peoples Democratic Party is also responsiblefor this crime.

A criminal gang kidnapped Father Gerald Ohaeri, a member of the Missionary Society of the Holy Spirit (Spiritans), on November 30. Father Ohaeri is a lecturer at the “Spiritan School of Philosophy” seminary in Isienu. The priest celebrated Mass in Enugu, the state capital of Enugu Province, and was on his way home during evening hours, to Isienu on the Ugwogo-Nike-Opi road, when members of a gang abducted him.

The Ugwogo-Nike-Opi road is infamous for the numerous kidnappings, despite the intensive deployment of security forces. According to Nigerian media sources, the same gang responsible for the abduction of Father Ohaeri was also responsible for the attempted kidnapping of a politician from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), one of the biggest parties in Nigeria.

There is currently no further information available regarding the status of the priest.
