Donald Trump and Jill Biden will visit the rebuilt Notre Dame Cathedral

President-elect Donald Trump announced Monday that he will travel to Paris, France, this weekend to attend the re-opening ceremony of the Notre Dame Cathedral.

First Lady Jill Biden will also participate in the ceremony as part of an overseas trip scheduled from Tuesday through the weekend.

“It is an honor to announce that I will be traveling to Paris, France, on Saturday to attend the re-opening of the magnificent and historic Notre Dame Cathedral, which has been fully restored after a devastating fire five years ago,” Trump shared on Truth Social. He praised French President Emmanuel Macron for overseeing the restoration, saying, “President Emmanuel Macron has done a wonderful job ensuring that Notre Dame has been restored to its full level of glory, and even more so. It will be a very special day for all!”

The cathedral, a symbol of French history and architecture, was engulfed in flames on April 15, 2019. The fire severely damaged the 860-year-old structure, including its vaulted ceiling and 19th-century spire.

While some speculated that the fire was an act of arson amid a wave of church attacks in France, investigators concluded in 2020 that it was likely caused by either a cigarette or an electrical short circuit.
