A German church was targeted by vandals

On September 27, unidentified individuals vandalized St. Mary's Church in Mönchengladbach, toppling the baptismal font, its ornate bronze dome, and the font bowl.

Wax from candles was scattered throughout the church, and flowers were discarded into rubbish bins. A priest, Klaus Hurtz reported the incident to the police, describing it as an act of “senseless destruction” and “senseless behavior.”

“The stone that was knocked over was anchored in the ground and so heavy that it would take three people to lift it again,” the priest said, highlighting the force used by the perpetrators. “It leaves me speechless.”

This is not the first instance of vandalism at the church. In late July, a swastika was painted on the church wall by an unknown individual.
