Lebanon is in fear of war escalation
After the explosion of different devices, used by terrorist group Hezbollah, exploded and the group blamed Israel, many in Lebanon are afraid of escalation of the conflict. Lebanese Maronite Archbishop said that nobody wants war or further escalation of the conflict.
Last Tuesday and Wednesday, multiple devices exploded across Lebanon, killing at least 32 people and injuring thousands. Most of the devices belonged to terrorist group Hezbollah, killing many of their members as well. The terrorist organisation blames Israel for the explosions.
Since the breakout of the conflict between Israel and Hamas in October last year, many people left their home in southern Lebanon and sought refuge in other cities up north, and clashes between members of Hamas and Israeli Defense Forces are everyday occurrences. The explosions last week worsened the already hostile situation. Furthermore, Israel announced the deployment of their troops on the border with Lebanon and airstrikes on Hezbollah positions. The threat of the further escalation of the conflict grows daily.
Archbishop Charbel Abdallah, the Maronite Archbishop of Tyre, expressed his worries over the possible escalation of the conflict.
“No one wants the conflict to escalate.”
Said the Archbishop and recalled the grave experiences of the suffering that the 2006 war between Hezbollah and Israel caused to civilians. He added that Christian communities remaining in southern Lebanon are standing firm in their faith despite the uncertainties of the current situation.
