“God alone saved me” – says Donald Trump after assassination attempt
At a campaign rally on Saturday, former President Donald Trump declared that "God alone" spared his life after a 20-year-old gunman attempted to assassinate him.
Shortly into his speech at Butler Farm Show in Butler, Pennsylvania, Thomas Matthew Crooks from Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, climbed on top of a building approximately 130 yards away, where he had a clear line of sight. He shot and hit the upper part of Trump’s right ear.
The shooter also killed rally attendee Corey Comperatore, who was praised as a “hero” by Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro for using his body to shield his daughters from harm.
Comperatore, 50, was a devoted father of two daughters and a former Buffalo Township Volunteer Fire Department fire chief.
His daughter, Allyson Comperatore, wrote on Facebook, “He shielded my body from the bullet that came at us. He truly loved us enough to take a real bullet for us.”
Additionally, the shooter severely wounded two audience members: David Dutch, 57, of New Kensington, Pennsylvania, and James Copenhaver, 74, of Moon Township, Pennsylvania. Both are now reported to be in stable condition, according to Pennsylvania state police.
