Baptist pastor was arrested just hours after his release
The pastor, along with some other people, was released by the Myanmar military junta. He returned home and met his family, but on the same day of his release, junta forces arrested him again, and this time his wife as well.
The arrested pastor is Dr. Hkalam Samson, the former head of the Kachin Baptist Convention (KBC). He spent 16 months in prison after his arrest by junta forces in 2022. Now, he was one of the hundred political prisoners the Myanmar military junta decided to free on April 17.
After his release, he returned home to Myitkyina, Kachin State, and was reunited with his family. However, his freedom was short-lived. The same day, about 9 p.m., the local police arrested him again. This time, they arrested his wife and a member of the Peace Talk Creation Group.
The reason behind Pastor Samson’s re-arrest is unknown. An expert says that the junta fears that the pastor could threaten their rule in Kachin state. The KBC asked for prayers and support for the freedom of Pastor Samson, his wife, and his associates.
