Myanmar Army detained a pastor and 16 youths

Myanmar Army arrested a pastor and 16 youths in a shelter camp in Kachin State, Myanmar.

On March 10, the Myanmar military carried out a raid on a shelter camp in Kachin State, Myanmar. They arrested a Baptist pastor and 16 youths during the raid. The people arrested were in Robert Camp, a Kachin Baptist Convention (KBC) shelter camp in Banmaw town.

The troops entering the camps fired shots and checked the people living in the camps while they arrested the pastor and the youths. The incident happened after rebels carried out an offensive against military facilities. They took control over many military junta-held bases and outposts.

It was not the first time the military harassed the Kachin Baptist Church. There have been reports on many occasions that the military targeted them. Despite the harassment, the Kachin Baptist Church continues to carry out its humanitarian work, helping the civilians in the war-torn region.

According to United Nations sources, around 3300 people live in camps run by the KBC.
