Brother of Chin pastor killed by the Burmese army still mourning

The family of an ethnic Chin Baptist pastor killed on September 18 by the Burmese Army is still grieving for his death.

Pastor Cung Biak Hum was shot dead by the Burmese Army (Tatmadaw) after the soldiers shelled at least 19 homes and a government building in Chin state’s Thantlang. At the time of his death, he came out to help put out the fire for his church member.

In an interview with the Baptist Standard, Stanley Cung said that he finds it hard to believe his brother was shot to death, though he finds comfort knowing he died doing what he loved to do. “He was happiest when he was helping other people,” Cung said of his brother.

Cung Biak Hum left behind their mother; his pregnant wife Suittha Par; and their sons, ages 7 and 11. The grieving family has arrived in India searching for safety, where Suittha Par is due to deliver their baby by C-section in November.
