Abducted Nigerian priest escapes captors
Father Elijah Juma Wada, from the Diocese of Maiduguri, Nigeria, was kidnapped on the 30th of June but later managed to escape from his kidnappers. He was found in good health on the 8th of July.
“We do not know exactly who the perpetrators of this kidnapping are but, in this region that is marked by the atrocities committed by Boko Haram, strong presumptions point to this Islamist terrorist group”, comments La Croix.
Faced with the increase in kidnappings of Christians, priests and nuns by Boko Haram and other Fulani armed groups such as the Fulani and others, the Nigerian episcopal conference decided at the end of January 2021 that it would no longer meet any ransom demands to discourage kidnappings.
