Portuguese episcopate suspends baptisms, weddings and confirmations

Due to the new lockdown introduced in this country, the Portuguese Bishops' Conference suspended the possibility of organising baptisms, weddings and confirmations.

In a press release, the bishops explained that with the increasing number of infections and deaths from COVID-19, there is an urgent need to limit meetings, including large religious celebrations.

“Due to the extremely dangerous epidemic situation in the country, we demand greater responsibility and solidarity from everyone in the fight against COVID-19,” Portuguese bishops wrote to the faithful.

They also recalled that during the lockdown that will last for the next month, the Church will have the right to organise services in churches, which was not the case during the previous lockdown in March and April.
