In the Netherlands, the elderly are killed on request because of “loneliness”
A study reported in the Journal of the American Medical Association, entitled Euthanasia and Physician-Assisted Suicide in Patients With Multiple Geriatric Syndrome, shows the results of an analysis of fifty-three cases of assisted suicide conducted in the Netherlands.
None of the people who decided to commit assisted suicide faced life-threatening diseases. The causes included hospitalisation or infection, as well as the loss of a loved one or fear of loss of mobility.
A concerning fact is that in nineteen cases loneliness was the main cause. There are many indications that if these elderly people were to be taken care of, they would be able to overcome their problems.
Unfortunately, many of them remain without the care of their relatives; taking their lives becomes the “cure” for that.
