The incident occurred on the 13th of October, in the Simpson Central School, in Mississippi, when a third-grade student, Lydia Booth was forced by her teacher to remove her ‘Jesus loves me’ masks, because, according to her, coverings with religious expressions were banned in the school.

Lydia’s parents said that their daughter wanted to wear the mask to spread the love of God as a missionary. According to them, she has never had any conflict due to the mask, and the school violated the child’s constitutional rights when they deprived her of her religious liberty.

The suit has been filed on behalf of the parents of Lydia, Matthew and Jennifer Booth, by The Alliance Defending Freedom who say the school district’s action is a violation of Lydia’s constitutional rights.
