Islamist militants beheaded fifty people in Cabo Delgado
Over the last three days, fifty people were beheaded in Cabo Delgado, northern Mozambique. According to an eyewitness, the victims were taken to a football pitch and executed.
Several people were also beheaded in another village, the state media reported.
The beheadings are the latest in a series of attacks that the militants have carried out in gas-rich Cabo Delgado province since 2017. Up to 2,000 people have been killed, and about 430,000 have been left homeless in the conflict in the mainly-Muslim province.
Sister Blanca Nubia Zapata, a religious sister in Mozambique, told ACN:
“It seems as though they are trying to evict the entire population of the northern part of Cabo Delgado province, expelling the ordinary people without the slightest vestige of compassion.”
Then she added: “Over 12,000 people have arrived here in the past two weeks. We can’t keep up. Women and children are arriving, and older people who have been walking for days. Some have died on the way, on the roads and the forest tracks”.
