Another three churches closed in Algeria
Despite the new Constitution, Christians are still in a difficult situation in Algeria.
In August of 2020, three Christian churches have been closed by an administrative tribunal in Algeria.
Christian churches are closed one after the other by the government, because, according to a law, every non-Muslim worship place must have previous permission from the authorities to be opened. But these permission requests are usually denied, or ignored.
Even though Algeria renewed the Constitution that supports liberty of conscience, it does not help Christians. According to the leaders of local Christian communities, it is not enough to change the Constitution, but rather, the mentality of Muslim leaders.
